And Stuart Royle, 47, has been charged with conspiracy to rob. Kim Shackelton, a 39-year-old woman, has been charged with handling stolen goods.

The armed raid a week ago was Britain's biggest cash robbery.

The three are the first people to be charged in connection with the heist, which took place at the depot, in Tonbridge, Kent, in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.

Road checks took place in Tonbridge, Faversham and Herne Bay on Tuesday evening, with officers stopping more than 600 vehicles and asking drivers if they remembered seeing anything to do with the raid.

Assistant Chief Constable Adrian Leppard said he had been "very encouraged by the response from members of the public".

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Securitas confirmed that its staff had returned to work at the premises in Vale Road, after a week of police activity and an audit of the amount of money stolen.
