A woman has been rescued from a fire in a sixth floor flat in north Belfast.
The fire broke out in the flat at Mount Vernon early on Thursday. The woman was trapped on a balcony and was rescued by firefighters using a special ladder.
The woman's condition is not known, but it is understood that her pet dog died in the fire.
Fire officer Gabriel Ferguson said that the woman had had a lucky escape and that the alarm was raised by her neighbours who were alerted by smoke.
"They said there was a fire and there was a lot of smoke and quite some panic," Mr Ferguson said.
He said fire control mobilised four engines including a high reach appliance from the Springfield Road depot which has a turntable ladder.
"When they arrived they found there was a severe fire in a flat on the sixth-floor where a lady was trapped on the balcony," Mr Ferguson said.
"Using the turntable ladder as a high reach appliance we were able to rescue this lady assisted by crews in breathing apparatus."
