A man's body has been recovered from water off Warrenpoint in County Down.
It is understood that a man had jumped into Carlingford Lough after police stopped a car on the Warrenpoint Road at about 0500 BST.
Officers called the Belfast Coastguard to help find the man who had ran off after the car was stopped.
A helicopter was scrambled and Kilkeel Coastguard and an inshore lifeboat also joined in the search. A body was recovered a short time later.
It was found on near the shoreline on the Warrenpoint road.
The police ombudsman has been asked to investigate the incident.
